5 Electrical Code Violations We Fix Every Week

If you're buying, selling, or remodeling a home, electrical code violations can derail your plans fast. Here are five we run into constantly—and why they matter:

  1. Unsecured Romex Wiring– Especially in garages or basements, loose wire needs to be stapled every 4.5 feet and protected from damage.

  2. Improper GFCI Outlets– Bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor areas must have GFCIs. We see lots of old two-prong outlets still hanging on.

  3. Overcrowded Junction Boxes– Too many wires crammed into a small box leads to heat buildup and fire risk.

  4. Double-Tapped Breakers– Connecting two circuits to one breaker is a shortcut that can overheat and arc.

  5. No Grounding/Bonding– Metal pipes and panels must be properly bonded to ensure fault currents don’t turn deadly.

Most violations we find are due to handyman work or outdated systems. We fix them fast, to code, and with full documentation if you’re listing or refinancing your property.
